The Middle School is one of the district's most significant facility challenges.
Multiple facilities assessments have identified substantial needs at the building, and the Middle School has among the highest levels of critical facility needs in the district.
The district therefore evaluated two broad options:
1. Continue investing substantially in the existing Middle School building; or
2. Create new middle school space as part of the existing High School campus.
The current proposal follows the second approach.
Rather than investing heavily in maintaining a separate aging middle school facility, or building a costly new standalone facility, the proposal would create a dedicated 7th–8th grade wing at the high school campus. (The new wings is expected to cost $14,615,611, while a new building is estimated to cost $55,000,000.)
This allows the district to address facility needs while reducing the number of separate buildings it must operate.
